With Christmas just around the corner, NBC anchor Sheinelle Jones made a shocking announcement. She revealed on Saturday, December 21’s pre-Christmas broadcast, that she is leaving the show, Weekend Today, after five years plus of prestigious service as a co-anchor. Where is Sheinelle heading next? Let’s find out.
Sheinelle Jones is not leaving NBC, only Weekend Today
NBC viewers may have noticed that Sheinelle had been pulling double duties until she said goodbye to one of the shows last weekend. She worked six days a week; as a co-anchor on Weekend Today (since 2014) and as a co-host on the third hour of Today.
Sheinelle revealed that she is taking a break from her busy working schedule, citing some personal reasons.
Initially, on the episode, Weekend Today co-anchor Peter Alexander acknowledged another co-anchor Dylan Dreyer’s pregnancy. Peter mentioned that December 21st marked Dylan’s last Saturday before she leaves on maternity leave. Dylan is expecting her second baby boy at the earliest of 2020 so before she left, her co-anchors gifted the new mom-to-be with pampering items.
Next, talk turned to Sheinelle and she revealed on camera that the day also marked her final appearance on the show and took the viewers for a short trip down the memory lane.
“I came to NBC News and Weekend Today. It was 2014. It has been an incredible five-plus years,” she said.
“For the past years, you guys know, cause you tell me on Instagram, you’ve noticed that I’ve been working Monday through Friday co-hosting the third hour of Today and I’m also coming here and hosting on Saturdays, as well,” she added.
Although she loves her job, it looks like the double duty is stealing away the valuable chance of her being with her family, which is why she has decided to give up on one of the stints.

Jones was emotional as she said, “As much as I love my Saturday Today family, this is going to be my last day anchoring this show. Since I’m so busy on the weekday, I thought I should probably see those three children that I have at home. There’re seven-year-old twins and there’s a 10-year-old. They are Kayin, Clara, and Uche, and every time I look up, I feel like they look like they are a little bit older. So I will be home with them on Saturday mornings but then I will still be here at the third hour every single day.”
After Jones revealed the news, Alexander thanked her for making his year an amazing one at the Weekend Today and made her recall some of her best memories from the set.
Fans of Jones are definitely going to miss her on the Weekend Today but thanks to her Today stint, we can still catch her throughout the weekdays in the third hour.
Who are Sheinelle Jones’ husband and children?
Hailing from Philadelphia, Jones got married to Uche Ojeh in 2007. Jones recently said in an interview that Uche has a new morning routine, which is why she is re-forming her working schedule, as well.
