Tyler Christopher’s departure from Days of Our Lives was confirmed last year in November, leaving the way open for the NBC soap to hire former General Hospital star, Brandon Barash. Tyler made his final appearance on Days on March 20, 2019, two days after which Brandon debuted on the show. Recent spoilers hint that Tyler may be planning a return to Days. Read on to find out what he said about his exit and possible return.

Why did Tyler Christopher leave Days of Our Lives?

Ahead of his final appearance on DOOL, Tyler took to Twitter to address his exit while praising Barash simultaneously.

Tyler tweeted, “Thank you all for the kind farewell’s. My time on @daysofourlives was nothing short of pure fun.” He praised his working team, along with Brandon in the tweet as “Such a great group of people to work for and be around every day. Please welcome @BrandonBarash into the roll. Such a solid actor and an even better person. #nbcdays #stefandimera”

Brandon Barash

Brandon showed a sweet gesture by replying to Tyler’s tweet. He wrote, “Thank you friend for your graceful passing of the proverbial torch & warm welcome into the Days community. I’m honored to join this iconic show that drips with integrity from the producers, to the crew members, and the actors.” He added, “I look forward to the exhilarating, albeit arduous, challenge of filling your shoes...as you are one of the greats, Tyler.”

Tyler and Brandon had previously worked together on General Hospital. Tyler appeared in the role of Nikolas Cassadine from 1996 to 2016 while Brandon portrayed Johnny Zacchara from 2007 to 2016.

Later, Days head writer, Ron Carlivati, also tweeted a pleasant response to the actor. Ron wrote, “Thank you [Tyler] for your always thoughtful and totally fearless portrayal of Stefan DiMera. It was wonderful working with you this time around, and I sincerely hope it’s not our last! #days.”

Tyler did not reveal the actual reason why he was leaving Days but from what was seen and heard, it was obvious that he departed on a positive note.

New reports hint alcohol was the reason behind Tyler’s exit

According to a report from a Days insider, Tyler was struggling with his sobriety during the time he left the soap last year. The insider claimed that the actor was taken off the set one day after passing out. The news was exclusively shared by Soap Dirt after the actor himself came forward to discuss the details. Soap Dirt also stated that a source claimed to be with Tyler at rehab.

In the previous week, Tyler acknowledged in the soap magazines that he made the deal with Days to address his issues. According to the actor, if he did, there might be a shot for him to resume his role as long as his recovery is on track.

Tyler stated that the distance from his family, who are living in Indiana at the time, is one of the reasons behind his relapse. He went on to say that if he returns to the NBC sudser this time, his family would come along with him. He said that they “need to be together.”

Days viewers know Brandon Barash takes Stefan out of Salem with a summertime exit. Reportedly, Barash has completed filming his episodes. Barash’s final air dates lie some time in August this year. That means, he leaves the same time as Chloe and other characters.

Tyler was a fan favorite from the moment he hit the Days screen and so was Brandon. The latest spoilers suggest that Tyler's got a plan in place if he and Days work out a deal for him to return as Stefan. Stay tuned to see if Tyler will make it back to the soap for real or not.
