Wanzhou was born on February 13. 1972, in Chengdu, Sichuan, China, to Ren Zhengfei and his first wife, Meng Jun. Her original name is Ren Wanzhou. She adopted her mother's surname at age 16. She has a younger brother named Ren Ping and a younger half-sister named Annabel Yao.
She graduated from high school in 1992 and started out by working at China Construction Bank. A year later, she joined Huawei as a secretary. Then in 1997, she joined Huazhong University of Science and Technology and later earned a master's degree in accounting. She returned to Huawei in 1998 and started working in the finance department.
She moved to Canada and acquired permanent residency in 2001, which she abandoned in 2009. She obtained Hing Kong permanent residency in around 2011.
She got married to businessman Liu Xiazong in 2007. Reportedly, Liu is a former employee of Huawei, who worked there for ten years. Meng and Liu have a daughter together while Meng has there sons from her previous marriages.
Meng Wanzhou's Career at Huawei
Since Meng is the daughter of the founder of Huawei, her involvement in the company was highly criticized in the past. She was even alleged to have joined her father's company under-qualified but it was not true.
Meng joined Huawei a year after graduating from high school and worked her way up. When she first joined the company, she worked as a receptionist. She worked as a secretary, personal assistant, schedule manager, and events manager, later. Her father believes that it is important to learn the basics to become a good manager.
Meng said, "I served as a secretary, and helped on sales and exhibitions etc when the company was small. My early jobs in Huawei were very trivial." Meng stated that her career actually took off after rejoining the company in 1998.
In the later days, she led the Accounting Management Department and International Accounting Department. She was announced one of the top executives in the company in 2011, shortly after being declared the CFO of Huawei. In March 2018, she became one of the four chairmen of the board and later became the deputy chairwoman.
Meng's father has a net worth of $3.2 billion. Meng's net worth details have not been revealed so far. However, it has been reported that she owns two multi-million dollar residences in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Meng was arrested on December 1, 2018, while going to Hong Kong from Mexico. She was arrested by the Canadian authorities at an extradition request of the USA while transferring planes at the Vancouver International Airport.
It was revealed a week later that the United States District Court for the Eastern District on New York had issued the arrest warrant on August 22, 2018. Meng was charged with "conspiracy to defraud multiple international institutions." This is not the first time that Meng has been suspected of illegal activity. Back in 2013, she was suspected of trying to sell computer equipment to Iran despite the ban on trade with Iran.
After Meng was arrested, the Chinese side demanded her freedom. Meng got a conditional bail on December 11 after paying $10 million ($7 million in cash and $3 million in sureties).
