Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) and Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) broke up during the Chicago Fire Season 7 winter premiere.  They were one of the most beloved couples on the show. Read on to know all about Severide and Stella break up and what's next for them in Season 7.

Why did Severide and Stella break up?

Kelly Severide and Stella Kidd had been struggling for some time. The sudden death of Severide's father earlier in the season put more strain on their relationship. Their relationship hits a breaking point when Severide begins spending more time restoring old boats and Stella finds herself facing a ghost from her past.

The cracks begin to appear as Severide gets jealous of Stella's friend, Tyler. Stella isn't surprised when Tyler tells her that he's in love with her and she ends the conversation quickly.

Later, Stella tells Severide that he has been pushing her away since his father's passing and she refuses to be with someone going down a dark path. She adds that they cannot be together and walks away as Severide looks on shocked.

Will Severide and Stella get back together?

Severide and Stella are dealing with the aftermath of their breakup. Their colleagues feel the tension but Stella has made it clear that whatever happened won't come in the way of their job.

On the January 16 episode, Stella says, "Let's just get this out in the open. Yeah, Severdie and I broke up. No, it will not affect our ability to work together. We're both adults, we're moving on, end of discussion."
