Justin Rose is an American sports reporter, anchor, host, and husband. After working for years at the station, Channel 7, he announced his time at WXYZ Detroit Channel 7 is coming to end. Rose finds himself the luckiest guy for doing what he loves and achieving so much, but he still thinks life has more for him. First, let’s find out why Justin is leaving Channel 7 and if he already got a new job.
Justin Rose leaving Channel 7 after seven years? Where is he going?
After working for seven years at the station, Justin Rose is ready to explore new opportunities in 2021. He will be leaving the station and the business at least, the traditional broadcasting business.
After wrapping up his coverage of the PGA Tour's Rocket Mortgage Classic at Detroit Golf Club, he announced quitting his career as he stayed for such a long time. Here’s a farewell video ‘A goodbye to WXYZ’, Justin posted on his Instagram.
Rose hasn't officially declared his next step. However, he still wants to get involved in storytelling. He said he wants to tell-feel good stories in longer form, digitally. He even added that there are time restrictions in broadcast TV, that frustrate so many anchors and reporters including him.
When did Justin Rose decide to quit his job?
Rose started thinking about stepping down from his job during the pandemic. When he found himself working from home and having time to spend more time with his wife, he decided to make some changes in his career. He thought about wanting more work-life balance.
Justin will celebrate his second anniversary with his wife, Caity, on Aug 31, which is just the day before his final day on air. The couple also has a dog named Scout Rose who happens to have its own personal Instagram account.
Channel 7 propose Rose to extend his contract
In the spring, Channel 7 offered Rose an employment contract extension. As he had already started to explore options by that time he did not decide to continue more. Instead, by declining the contract he slightly felt a weight lifted off his chest.
We also heard that Channel 7 has hired Rose's replacement. The announcement could come very soon. Stay tuned.
How did Justin Rose land on Channel 7?
Not too many people are fortunate enough to figure out their career path in high school, Rose is one of those lucky people. In 2002, after just finishing playing in a JV basketball game for St. Clair High, he hopped on the mic to call the varsity game with the lead play-by-play man, who just so happened to be his dad, Rick.
That cameo helped Rose to know what he wanted to do in his career. He went to Michigan State to major in journalism and soon to sports-reporting jobs in West Virginia, Lansing, and at long last Channel 7 (WXYZ) in September 2014.
Today Rose is a four-time Emmy winner, three for reporting and one for anchoring.
