Steve Jerve first announced his official retirement during the 6 pm broadcast on Monday, July 26, 2021. He took to his Facebook the next day and shared the emotional news with his social media followers. 

In his post, he said that it’s his own choice to set aside the weather clicker and start the next part of his life. He even added how fantastic and supportive WFLA was during his time there. To all the viewers who were continuously asking for the reason, he cleared them saying it’s his personal decision to want to move on from his current career.

Jerve's final broadcast will be on August 6, 2021, at the news station.

Steve praised his great, great awesome weather team and the viewers before saying goodbye. He thinks the team members and the audience are the ones who decide whether you can continue your job or not, which is why he really appreciates them for supporting him through all these years. He showed his gratitude by thanking everyone for his journey, especially viewers for accepting him into their home all these years.

Who is Steve Jerve? How old is he?

Steve Jerve is a famous American meteorologist who has officially decided to retire from the news channel in his 50’s. He worked as a weather reporter and anchor. He went to Glencoe High School and graduated from Jackson State University with a bachelor’s degree in Meteorology. He also graduated from Mississippi State University and the University of Minnesota-Morris in Meteorology and Speech, Broadcasting/Production/History.

During his college years, he also played basketball. With the height of 6 feet and 6 inches, we bet he was good at it.

How did Steve Jerve begin his career in television?

Steve started his career in the news in 1983. He worked for  KAAL-TV as a weather anchor and reporter. Then, just a year later, he joined WJTV where he anchored and produced news content for broadcast. After that, he again joined another TV station as chief meteorologist.

During a stint in St Louis, Missouri at KDLN, he also won an Emmy for weather forecasting. And with all these years of experience, he went to WFLA-TV News Channel 8 as chief meteorologist where he would be working for a total of 24 years in 2022.
