Is Luka Magnotta alive?

Yes, the Canadian model turned murderer, Luka Magnotta, is still alive. He was born in 1982 in Toronto, which makes him currently 37 years old. Magnotta is currently serving life in prison and is married to a fellow inmate, Anthony Jolin.

Magnotta has received a lot of attention in recent days after the release of Netflix's latest offering, Don't F**k With Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer. The three part series follows the internet's hunt for Magnotta, who went viral for disturbing videos of him torturing cats. 

As told on Don't F**k With Cats, amateur sleuths Deanna Thompson and John Green set up a Facebook group to identify and track down Magnotta. In 2012, a reporter from The Sun confronted Magnotta while he was in London, in response to which the killer sent a letter to the British publication writing his next target "won't be small animals."

On May 24 that year, Magnotta met Lin Jun, an international student from China, through Craigslist. The following day, he posted the video of him stabbing Lin Jun to death on the internet.

Magnotta fled the US after the murder. He initially went to Paris, France and later to Berlin, Germany. He was apprehended by the German police at an internet cafe in Neukolln on June 4, 2012, where he was reading articles of himself.

During his trial in 2014, he pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. In December that year, he was served a life sentence with no possibility of parole before serving 25 years.

Luka Magnotta is serving his life sentence at Port Cartier prison, situated in Quebec, Canada after he was found guilty of first-degree murder of international student, Lin Jun, in December 2014. 

In his mother, Anna Yourkin's book, My Son, The Killer: The Untold Story of Luka Magnotta & 1 Lunatic 1 Ice Pick, Magnotta was quoted saying, "I'm outside the majority of the time ... I play a lot of video games. We have movie nights. We all have our own TVs. I have painting class and I exercise a lot. I practice language studies."

According to Brian Whitney, the co-author of the book, Magnotta told him that he was pressured by his lawyers into claiming diminished responsibility due to poor mental health.

The infamous internet killer has found love in prison. Magnotta got married to another inmate, Anthony Jolin, on June 26, 2017. According to this article on the Montreal Gazette website from that year, his mother was his witness. In 2015, Magnotta had signed up for Canadian Inmates Connect, an inmate dating website.

Who is Karla Homolka?

Karla Homolka is one of the infamous Canadian duo, Ken and Barbie Killers. Magnotta reportedly had an obsession with Karla and even though they never met, her name was brought up in his trial in 2014.

Magnotta apparently posted rumors on the internet about him being romantically involved with Homolka, only to publicly deny them later. During his trial, he admitted to creating the rumors himself to create a bad boy reputation.

Homolka and her husband, Paul Bernardo, were involved in a series of gruesome crimes where they assaulted and murdered at least three young women. Both of them were sentenced in 1995 but Homolka had agreed to a deal with the police to testify against Bernardo in exchange for a lighter sentence.

Homolko spent 12 years in prison and according to her sister, she has remarried and is living in Quebec.
