Fox News, one of the leading names in the news reporting business, became a topic of controversy back in 2016 when Gretchen Carlson filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against the then chairman and CEO, Roger Ailes. The lawsuit triggered numerous other similar lawsuits against Ailes and other top executives at the network.
Bombshell, a movie surrounding the various harassment scandals at Fox News, released on December 13, 2019. Starring in the movie is Nicole Kidman as Gretchen Carlson, Charlize Theron as Megyn Kelly, and Margot Robbie as Kayla Pospisil. While the audience is familiar with the former two characters, Kayla Pospisil appears to be a new name, which is why many people are asking who Kayla Pospisil is in real life. The movie also featured various other real-life characters portrayed by startling look-alikes.
Does Kayla Pospisil exist in real life?
In the movie Bombshell, Margot Robbie’s character Kayla Pospisil appears as someone who works in the newsroom but not on air. Following the screening of the movie in Los Angeles on November 1, Robbie was at a Q&A, where she spoke about her character and revealed how much of it was true.
According to Robbie, Kayla Pospisil is a fictional character composite of several real women at Fox News. We know Megyn Kelly and Gretchen Carlson were the highlights of the movement, there were many other women who eventually joined them and Kayla Pospisil represents all those women.
Robbie said, “She is real to me but in this particular case she is an amalgamation of a number of women’s stories and she’s even more real because of that. I have even more responsibility because of that but it’s also a privilege.”
Just because a character is fictional, the responsibility does not go away. And Margot has truly justified it.
“I’ve played a number of real-life people before and I’ve always felt a huge amount of responsibility when doing that,” Robbie said. “Then I feel responsible for fictional characters I play too because they end up becoming really real to me. I felt a huge sense of responsibility to Harley, to any. They exist in my mind. They have childhoods.”
Speaking of Kayla, Robbie said, “You come up with all this stuff, their backstories and this,” Robbie said. “I could tell you where Kayla’s going to be at 60 if you want to hear. It’s really interesting.”
Margot valued the story so much that she did not meet even a single accuser. She felt that meeting the women would not help her.
“These guys did spend a lot of time talking to these women and I was very fortunate to have that body of research and experiences there ready and available to me,” Robbie said of the screenwriters. “I didn’t want to meet them personally. I felt that I needed that barrier which was a choice I struggled with here and there with different characters,” she added.
While it has been confirmed that Margot Robbie’s character in Bombshell is not real, she has played real-life characters like Tonya Harding and Sharon Tate in I, Tonya and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, respectively.
