Mixed-ish, the newly released sitcom on ABC, which premiered on September 24, 2019. The show is a prequel spinoff of long-running ABC sitcom Black-ish and is the second spin-off of the show after Grown-ish. Mixed-ish has introduced an up and coming talent, Arica Himmel, in the role of Rainbow Johnson. Arica was born on February 23, 2005, in New York City, NY, to Zelma Davis and Brandon Himmel. She has an elder sister named Zoe Himmel. Like her character on Mixed-ish, Arica is biracial in real life.

Her mother Zelma, who is originally from Africa, is a renowned singer with several prestigious awards under her belt. Primarily known for her dance numbers like Things That Make You Go Hmmm… and Just a Touch of Love, Zelma has won five Billboard Music Awards, four American Music Awards, and two MTV Video Music Awards. She was also nominated for a Grammy Music Award in 1991.

Arica’s father is a realtor and also manages his elder daughter’s career. Zoe is also an actress. She studied at The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre, New York and Berklee College of Music in Boston. Meanwhile, Arica just graduated from her junior high school back in June this year.

Arica was also a stage actress and has appeared in off-Broadway production like The Layover. On television, she made her earliest appearances in 2016 playing a recurring role in the comedy series, Thanksgiving. Next, she made guest appearances in various renowned television shows like God Friended Me, Before You Know It, and Sesame Street. 

Likewise, she landed a supporting role as Olivia in a 2019 movie, Before You Know It. 

Talking of her role on Mixed-ish, Bow is a biracial lady “who details her background and actual real-life event.” Meanwhile, Arica plays the younger (teen) version of Bow. The adult version is played by Girlfriends famed actress Tracee Ellis Ross. 

Arica says, “As a biracial girl, it’s exciting to portray a character in the spinoff Mixed-ish who I can relate to in specific ways. And what an honor it is to work with and learn from a cast of immense talent.”
