Roy Grooms was born on December 6, 1949, in Robbinsville, North Carolina. At the age of 71, Roy passed away at Harris Regional Hospital in Sylva, NC, USA. Roy’s full name is Roy Linville Grooms. He lived a simple life enjoying simple things effortlessly. Roy loved everybody and his quick wit made his fans laugh in every episode of Moonshiners.

A native of Haywood Country, Roy was the son of the late Garfield and Dorothy Hanna Grooms and he was married to Kathleen Rutherform Grooms. He had a beautiful daughter, Allison Grooms, with his wife.
He is survived by his sisters, Patricia Grooms and Betty Effinger, and his brother, Kenny Grooms.

Roy L. Grooms died on Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at Harris Regional Hospital in Sylva, NC, USA.
His memorial service ceremony took place at Townson-Smith Chapel on Sunday, February 25, 2018. His memorial services followed at Carver Cemetery. On Feb 22, 2018, his daughter, Allison Grooms, shared a heartfelt post regarding her father’s funeral ceremony on Facebook.
She wrote, "We are having Daddy's funeral Sunday. We are having a celebration of life party for him at the Hillbilly Winter Jam in Maggie Valley at the Rendezvous this weekend. He was looking forward to seeing everybody and would want us to carry on by telling the stories he told and sharing memories of him”

Moonshiners first season premiered on December 6, 2011. Since then moonshining business was and is booming. In 2020, the successful and thriving show was renewed for the 10th season, which came to an end on April 6, 2021.
As they usually leave a year between each season, the 11th season of Moonshiners might be returning at the end of this year.
