What happened to Monica Malpass?
Monica Malpass announced her departure from 6ABC Action News on May 22. Her exit comes 31 years after she first joined the Philadelphia based ABC News affiliate WPVI-TV. “I have decided to move on, but it’s with mixed emotions that I leave after more than 31 years,” Monica said on her final broadcast, during which the channel aired a video tribute for her narrated by her longtime co-anchor, Rick Williams.
“I have loved being your anchorwoman. This is a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family. It was certainly a difficult decision to make, but I’m excited to spend more time with my young family while I choose the next great opportunity," she continued.
Malpass has three sons; Jake, and twins Zeke and Hunter. According to the official statement by WPVI, the popular anchor looks forward to cover national and international news and explore other career opportunities while she spends time with her sons.
Malpass joined WPVI-TV in January 1988 as a reporter. Prior to Philadelphia, she worked in North Carolina at WXII-TV and WCHL-AM as an anchor and reporter. Over the years, Malpass has covered several important events such as inaugurations of President George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, 2005 Super Bowl, Princess Diana's funeral and the 2015 U.S. visit of Pope Francis.
