Chris Van Etten is a soap opera writer and actor, best known for his association with the ABC sudser General Hospital. In the soap, he plays the role of Chet Driscoll, one of the brothers of nurse Amy Driscoll.
Chris Van Etten's journey on General Hospital
The 28-year-old soap opera writer hailing from New York first joined the General Hospital's writing team on May 10, 2012. He was initially hired as a breakdown writer, a position he reigned until October 6, 2017. He has been serving as a co-head writer for GH since October 9, 2017. Before writing for General Hospital, Chris was also a breakdown writer and occasional associate head writer for One Life to Live from 2005 to 2012.
Chris made his acting debut on GH as Chet on November 8, 2017. Chet's early life has not been demonstrated on screen but according to Maxie Jones (portrayed by Kirsten Storms), he went to Port Charles High and was the man in high school. He got injured when he was enrolled in ROTC, which partially resembles Chris' real life incident.
Chet returned to town in May 2018 to check on Maxie and her newborn son as she was mourning the death of her husband, Nathan West. The character once again returns for Christmas to offer support to Maxie, who is facing her first holiday without Nathan.
Chris Van Etten got injured while enlisted in the Marine Corps
Chris joined the Marine Corps in 2009. On June 13, 2012, while conducting a patrol with his battalion in Afghanistan, they stepped on an IED. In trying to aid his friend, Chris stepped on another IED which damaged both his legs, needing to get them amputated. His friend did not survive.
Following the incident, he returned to the USA and spent a year in intensive rehabilitation to learn walking with the help of prosthetic legs. Determined to be not defeated by circumstances, Chris has been following other passions in his life at present. He has become a model, a motivational speaker and has been working for numerous charities.
Chris Van Etten and wife Samantha Yovandich welcomed a baby boy in August 2018
Chris met Samantha in 2014 in an Illinois-based gym called Gold's Gym. Samatha was a trainer there and it was her who noticed and pursued him.
Chris popped the question to his long-time girlfriend on June 4, 2016. He broke the news via Instagram by sharing a picture of Samatha wearing the engagement ring captioned as "She said yes, so I guess I'm doing something right."
They got married on April 1, 2017, in Oceanside, California. Their wedding was sponsored by Al and Cathie Ransom, the owners of Paradise Falls, who once a year gift weddings to wounded warriors through a program called Vows for Vets.
The pair welcomed their first baby, son Milo Taylor Van Etten, on August 21, 2018. Chris announced the arrival of his son via Instagram by sharing an adorable picture of the newborn. Chris has been sharing pictures of Milo frequently and we can see that he is growing up really fast.
