Gretchen Carlson’s life after Fox News | 2020 updates
Carlson has been a significant figure since voicing against sexual harassment at Fox News which led several other Fox News employees to come forward with their share of similar stories. Ever since she has become an active women’s rights activist.
Carlson released a book in 2017, her second book, Be Fierce, which depicts several cases of harassment. The book went on to become a NY Times bestseller.
She also appeared on two TED talk sessions, once discussing women’s rights and sexual harassment in the workplace, and the second time talking about hyper-partisan political times and ways to solve it.
On January 1, 2018, Carlson became the board of directors of the Miss America Organization, following which she removed the swimsuit competition from the pageant. The controversial move divided opinions within the organization, leading 22 states to hold a vote of no confidence. These states also demanded the resignations of Carlson and CEO Regina Hopper.
More calls for resignation came as several board members, including former Miss Americas, accused Carlson and Hopper of abruptly forcing them to resign. Carlson was also accused of silencing and marginalizing then-reigning Miss America Cara Mund. Investigations later cleared Carlson of her wrongdoing.
In early 2019, under Carlson’s leadership, Miss America brand returned to NBC. After helping the organization secure the network deal, Carlson resigned in June 2019.
After exiting from the beauty pageant, Carlson returned to broadcasting. She worked with Lifetime network this time around and presented a couple of topical documentaries on the network. The first was Beyond the Headlines: Escaping the NXIVM Cult with Gretchen Carlson which aired on September 21, 2019, and the second was Beyond the Headlines: The College Admissions Scandal with Gretchen Carlson which aired on October 12, 2019.
