Why did Sharon Reed leave CBS46?

On April 25, 2019, Reed announced in a press release that she would no longer be appearing on CBS46. She will be leaving the network at the end of May sweeps period. Her final airdate will be on Wednesday, May 22. 

The anchor is moving on to pursue other opportunities. In her statement, she wrote, “In the last few months, some exciting projects have come up that require my full-time attention to explore."

She continued, "As a result, I've made the difficult decision to leave CBS46 and Peachtree TV when my contract expires at the end of May. This decision does not come lightly - it's something I have been thinking about for months. In the television business, timing is critical and this is the time for me to make this move.”

She later took to Facebook explain her decision to her fans. I’ve loved doing this job for the past four years. I hope you could see my passion every single day. This was no easy decision," she wrote in the post. 

Reed had joined CBS46 in June 2015 as a primary anchor. During her tenure, she was a driving force in the newsroom and shared her opinions unabashed. It was Reed who launched CBS46 News at 9 on Peachtree TV in 2017 and she covered the Super Bowl LIII in February.

Sharon Reed new show in 2019

According to Reed, we'll definitely be seeing more of her in the near future. But the anchor hasn't yet revealed anything about her new show. Talking to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, she disclosed the reason behind this. She explained that she hasn't been promoting her new projects "out of respect for the TV station." 

"I’m not leaving today or tomorrow. I have another month to go. I feel committed to the remaining stretch... I am going to show up every day and do what I’ve been doing," she continued.
