Why did Charles Woodson leave ESPN?
On February 7, 2019, Charles Woodson revealed that he was leaving ESPN. The former Raiders and Packers player took to Instagram to share the news.
In his Instagram video, Woodson thanked the network for the opportunity to work there and hiring him after his retirement from the NFL. "It's been a wonderful three years; it's been a blast. I've learned a lot, had a lot of fun, gained some great friends," he said in the post.
He continued, "For everybody out there that tuned in and watched me every week, I'll see you next season, somewhere. Stay tuned."
Charles Woodson new job
Although Woodson didn't reveal where he'll be going next, we know that he's coming back for the next season.
There were speculations that Woodson is leaving to join the Raiders as an assistant coach. There is currently an opening and Derrick Ansley, Raiders' defensive backs coach, is reportedly moving to Tennessee to be the defensive coordinator.
However, Woodson himself shut down the rumors on Twitter. On February 10, he wrote that the timing of his departure and the coach job opening was "purely coincidence."
Woodson played football at the University of Michigan where he received the Heisman Trophy and the National Championship in 1997. He was a first-round pick in the 1998 NFL for the Oakland Raiders, kicking off an 18-year career. He was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2009.
