Fans of The Shield are still in shock as Dean Ambrose has announced his departure from WWE. Dean was one of the three members of The Shield. The epic tag team trio has been through breakups and unions in the past. But this might be it for the team this time. Read on to find out why Dean Ambrose is leaving WWE and what are his plans for the future.
Why is Dean Ambrose leaving WWE?
The Shield was formed long back in 2012 by Dean, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. The group had been going through some tensions since Reigns went on a hiatus in 2018 after he was diagnosed with leukemia. During this period, Dean and Seth had several bouts.
Things started to get better when Reigns returned to WWE, which hinted that the trio was on its way of reunion. However, everything changed after Dean lost a RAW rematch against Seth Rollins on January 28, 2019. Soon afterward, WWE announced that Dean was on his way out from the wrestling organization.
Later, WWE released a statement which said that Dean’s contract came to an end in April this year. The wrestling organization had offered him a new contract, which promised him a pay raise as well, but he decided to go with not renewing the contract.
The Shield reunited in April and the trio played their last match together, The Shield’s Final Chapter, on April 21. The Shields played the six-man tag team match against Baron Corbin, Bobby Lashley, and Drew McIntyre, and they won.
Dean has not disclosed why he is leaving WWE. Fans have been speculating that the decision came from Dean’s frustration with the creative direction of his character. There are also fans who think that Dean’s exit is just a big kayfabe storyline and that the wrestler will return soon. However, nothing can be confirmed until an official statement is released.
Where did Dean Ambrose go?
Whether or not Dean returns to WWE in the future, one thing is clear that he is out from here for now. Recent reports say that he will probably join AEW, which is the new pro wrestling company.
Ahead of The Shield’s last match, Michael Cole interviewed the trio, where he questioned Dean about his plannings for the future but it looks like Dean wants it to be a secret.
“Let me stop you right there, because I already know what your final question is gonna be, okay? And I don’t appreciate people putting words in my mouth, and I don’t appreciate people trying to tell the story of my life to fit their narrative, okay?” Dean said to Michael.
"Eight years ago, I walked into this casino. And now I’m cashing in my chips, and I’m walking away from the table. I won the game. And what I do with the rest of my life from here on out, is my business. I answer to no one. This time, the million dollar man didn’t get what he wanted. Cause I can’t be bought,” he said.
While Dean is not ready to spill out the truth yet, fans can’t help but speculate that WWE’s rival, AEW, is trying to snag him as soon as his contract expires. So far, there’s no talk about his retirement.
